Scriptures for Jotham's Journey

The stories of Jesus' birth are found in the first few pages of Matthew and Luke.  Below are a few other verses that describe those events.

Isaiah 7:14

Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign," he said.  "The virgin will be with child, and will give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel.

Is. 9:2, 6 & 7

"The people walking in darkness have seen a great light...For unto us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be upon his shoulders.  And his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace."

Is 40:3

A voice of one calling in the desert, 'Prepare the way for the Lord; make straight in the wilderness a highway for our God.'

Is 61:1-3

The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me, because the Lord has anointed me to preach the good news to the poor.  He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release for the prisoners, to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor and the day of vengeance of our God, to comfort all who mourn, and provide for those who grieve in Zion -- to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair.

Micah 5:2

But you, oh Bethlehem...though you are small...out of you will come for me one who will be ruler over Israel, whose origins are from of old...

John 1:14

And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.

John 3:16

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
