Jericho Quill Press
Jotham’s Journey and other books by Arnold Ytreeide
PUBLIC DEMAND LEADS TO NEW WEBSITE
IMMEDIATE RELEASE: 3/21/08
BOISE, IDAHO - After thousands of emails, letters, phone calls, and even visits, Jericho Quill Press announced today that the best-selling Jotham’s Journey trilogy of Christmas adventure books will be re-issued beginning this summer. But it’s that same public outcry that created Jericho Quill Press in the first place.
“It’s more humbling and gratifying than I can ever put into words,” said author Arnold Ytreeide, “which is pretty bad, since I’m supposed to be a writer!”
It started ten years ago with the release of Jotham’s Journey: A Family Adventure for Christmas, a book for families to read together during the four weeks leading up to Christmas. With the overwhelming success of that book, and because of consumer response, the publisher asked Arnold to write two sequels. Bartholomew’s Passage soon joined Jotham on one of the Christian Bookseller Association’s Best-Seller lists. Tabitha’s Travels was the third book in the series, but the year it was issued, the publishing house was sold to another company.
“The new publisher only did Sunday school curriculum,” Ytreeide said, “so was not interested in a Christmas devotional series.” That began the public campaign to bring Jotham and his friends back to life. “Publishers are very leery of re-printing some other company’s books,” Ytreeide explained. “But when we showed them the stacks of letters and emails, and told them about the phone calls and visits, Kregel stepped up and bought Jotham’s Journey as a test.” Kregel Publications in Grand Rapids, Michigan (www.Kregel.com)
will be releasing the book late this summer, in time for the Christmas and Advent seasons.
But that’s not the end of the story. “We kept getting more and more emails asking if there were any other books people could buy,” Ytreeide said. “So when technology made it easy to publish and distribute books, we finally decided to create Jericho Quill.” An offshoot of Jericho Pictures, a motion picture production company, Jericho Quill now offers a variety of books, almost all of which were written by Ytreeide. The new company brings together all of Ytreeide’s books at its website, www.JerichoQuill.com, whether published by Kregel, another company, or Jericho Quill itself.
“It’s so nice to finally have an answer when people ask about our books,” Ytreeide said, “especially since none of this would have happened if it hadn’t been for public demand.”
Currently available on the Jericho Quill site, and through Amazon.com, are Submarine Spy the first in a new adventure series for kids, Under My Teacher’s Desk, a mystery/adventure about life in elementary school, and Time of Iniquity, a novel for adults.
“Under My Teacher’s Desk was a lot of fun to write,” Ytreeide said, “since I wrote it for my wife’s fourth-grade class. It takes kids on an adventure in, around, and under their school.”
Submarine Spy, and the books that follow in that series, is designed for ten to fourteen year-olds. “It’s a little more serious and sophisticated than either the Christmas series or Teacher’s Desk,” Ytreeide said.
Time of Iniquity is Ytreeide’s first novel for adults. It explores one man’s regret over past actions, and is definitely for more mature readers, according to the author.
Several other books will be released in the next two months, the website reports.
“Through Jericho Quill, we hope to keep up a running dialogue with readers,” Ytreeide said, “providing them with wholesome family entertainment, education, and spiritual growth.”
Arnold Ytreeide is an author, former youth pastor, and former police officer who now teaches film and television production at Northwest Nazarene University in Nampa, Idaho.
