KIDS GO DINO-NUTS FOR "UNDER MY TEACHER’S DESK"
IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Shhhh! Don’t tell your kids, but there are dinosaurs living under their teacher’s desk!
That’s the secret of Arnold Ytreeide’s new book, Under My Teacher’s Desk, and it’s a secret kids love to discover.
It all starts when five fourth-graders come to school one day and everything is different. Instead of rules and lessons and homework, all they do is draw and have recess all day. But more strange than that, their teachers all stand around smiling – and clapping their hands together lightly as if applauding some very tiny and very quiet opera.
What’s going on here, Thomas, Jeremy, Jasmine, Tracy, and Adam wonder?
Before the kids can find out, they start disappearing. Using things like the "process of elimination" their teacher, Mrs. Winfred, had taught them, the five friends begin their adventure.
"I wrote Under My Teacher’s Desk for my wife’s fourth grade class," said author Arnold Ytreeide, "and the book is designed to teach as well as entertain." It’s been used by families, home-schoolers, and in classrooms. In fact, the accompanying website has resources for teachers such as a vocabulary list, a reading quiz, discussion questions, and more.
What really hooks young readers, though, is the secret the five fourth-graders uncover: their teacher’s desk is hiding a stairway to a strange world below the earth. Once underground, the five friends face perils and obstacles as they work to free their teachers, their school, and the whole world.
"The students in the story have to put all their education into surviving below the earth, and saving the world," Ytreeide said. "In the process, they also learn a lot about themselves, and each ends up becoming a better person for their ordeal."
Kids enjoy reading Under My Teacher’s Desk by themselves, but teachers have also found it a great resource. A free chapter is available at
www.JerichoQuill.com, and the book can be ordered on that site or at Amazon.com.
